Welcome to Yo's Kitchen Counter!
Yolanda graduated from the University of Nevada - Reno in 1999 with a degree in Dietetics. After graduation she spent a year interning at Seattle Area Health Facilities where her primary focus was delivering community and public health education in Spanish-speaking communities. Yolanda obtained her RD credential in 2000 and became a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) in 2008.
Yo spent 8 years providing Medical Nutrition Therapy as a Nutrition Counselor at Renown Medical Center. During this time, she focused on strengthening her counseling skills so that she is able to not only address the physiology of healthful eating, but the emotional aspects as well. This combination approach has made her popular among those who have spent much of their life dieting.
Yolanda loves the challenge of public speaking and engaging large audiences. She has provided seminars to local groups and corporations including Granite Construction and Sierra Pacific. She was an invited speaker at the 2008 American Heart Association's Go Red Luncheon and has been a guest on the KTHX morning show. She has been quoted in the RGJ, R Life Magazine, and Washoe Family Magazine. Yolanda has provided interviews to all three local news stations on topics such as healthy eating during pregnancy, diabetes management, and caffeine consumption.
Yolanda has been certified in Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management since 2004, counseling families long before becoming a mom herself. Today, as a mom, she is skilled at balancing her professional expertise with the reality of raising kids who have their own opinions. Yo loves helping families find ways for every family member to participate in creating a healthful life.
In her spare time, Yo enjoys scrapbooking, working out, and taking the kids to their various activities. She loves trying new things (everything from tennis to swing dancing) and spending time with her friends and family.
